My approach to substance abuse counseling is individualized according to the need of the client and family. I find that the overwhelming majority of people respond well to a direct, yet compassionate approach. As your therapist, I will be genuine, honest, compassionate, empowering and hold you accountable to successfully complete your treatment goals. Below is a list of common psychotherapies I use for substance abuse counseling:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A type of therapy used to treat a wide range of mental illnesses and identify the specific behaviors and mindsets that may contribute to addiction.
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT therapy): A type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment.
- Family Therapy: Family can be a huge source of support and care for someone struggling with substance use disorder. Family therapy may be especially useful for those with co-occurring disorders, as it balances therapeutic practices with familial care.
